I didn't see much of Roy Rogers when I was a kid. I was more into sci-fi and comedies than westerns, but the genre began growing on me at I grew.
It might have had something to do with the fact that, even though I was born and raised in New York City, I enjoyed country and western music.
These were the '40s and country music-lovers from the South were coming to work in factories producing wartime necessities. Also, there was a lot of farming going on in Joisey.
A favorite group for many was the Sons of the Pioneers whose gorgeous harmonies inspired a host of artists trying to follow in their footsteps.
