CHESAPEAKE -- Amid a swaying canopy of oaks, maples and pines, the man who calls himself Medicine Hawk made his pitch. Be kind to the environment, he told his youthful audience, and respect the land.

On a morning when the wind rustled through trees, the nearby highway roared and the skies buzzed, Medicine Hawk's message might have been lost. But his audience of fifth-graders at Deep Creek Elementary School was captivated - if not entirely by his message, then certainly by the Native American artifacts that passed from hand to hand Thursday morning.
