YORK COUNTY -- Anti-nuclear weapons protestors tried for nearly two hours in Thursday's afternoon heat to push their way into the main gate at Yorktown Naval Weapon Station - doing their best to get arrested.
They sang peace songs and waved banners, as traffic was rerouted. Three demonstrators pressed their bodies against a line of sailors barring entrance to the main gate. Two of them sat on the sailors' boots.
The activists say that it becomes a matter of conscience to break the law in order to get laws changed. But at 1 p.m., moments before the demonstrators were to be hauled off in cuffs, they simply called ...
