We could forego celebrating Halloween in Virginia Beach and still have all the sound effects for an eerie holiday night.
With all the great horned owls and screech owls that hoot and call from neighborhood trees and woods, we don't need any manufactured noises to make Halloween a scary time.
Although other owls in the area also call from their haunts in the dark of the night, there's nothing so familiar as the deep hooting of the great horned owl and the eerie hollering of the little screech owl that surely lives up to its name.
