Yellow, green, red and brown, solid, mottled and striped, smooth and warty, slender and plump, thin-necked and thick-necked, gourds are the most exotic harvest I can imagine.
As a child, I recall being amazed that anything quite so interesting looking as a gourd could actually grow right in a person's ordinary garden. Today my fascination with their odd shapes and colors still holds.
Now the Francis Land House is playing right to my interest with ``Out of Your Gourd!'' a program at 2 p.m. Saturday at the historic house at 3131 Virginia Beach Blvd.
