SOUTH MILLS -- Visitors will be extra welcome at the Dismal Swamp Canal Welcome Center Friday, when the public is invited to help dedicate the facility's expansion and renovation.
To mark the end of two years of construction, Director Penny Leary-Smith and her staff have planned a celebration both official and festive.
She also hopes partygoers will learn something.
``We work very strongly in the promotion and marketing of tourism for (North Carolina's) Northeast Commission,'' she said. ``Some people don't look at tourism as economic development, and it is.''
