WILLIAMSBURG -- In 1974, Mario J. Molina and two other chemists informed the world that the one-time ``miracle chemicals'' used as coolants in refrigerators and air conditioners would be lethal to Earth's atmosphere.
So would be the popular solvents made from similar compounds and those used to clean expensive circuit boards.
Ditto on the propellant inside cans of hairspray, paint, furniture polish and more - which averaged more than 30 bottles per household, Molina told a group Tuesday at the College of William and Mary.
