CHESAPEAKE -- All night long, the wind howled and swept its fury across land and water, but the Karma held steady. Berthed along inland waters, the 40-foot yacht proved safe refuge for Hardy Gersbach and his wife.
In Friday's morning light, after a sometimes unnerving night, the Gersbachs saw that all was fine. ``This was the safest place to be,'' said Gersbach, who found safe haven for his vessel at the Atlantic Yacht Basin at Great Bridge, about 20 miles inland from open water along the Intracoastal Waterway.
