Former WAVY-TV news director and anchor Lloyd Dobyns has been fired twice in his career and said he ``enjoyed both experiences immensely.'' Each time, new opportunities opened to him. Today, he is a journalism professor.
Dobyns, who was on WAVY-TV and radio from 1960 to 1968, was fired when LIN Broadcasting bought the station. He was the Peninsula correspondent before becoming an anchor and news director. Dobyns said he was canned because the station wanted to save money on top salaries; he earned $25,000.
Dobyns moved to New York City, where he worked for WNEW-TV. After a year he switched to the networks as an assistant news director at WNBC. Dobyns ...
