WASHINGTON -- The Food and Drug Administration warned allergy sufferers Monday that mixing the antihistamine Hismanal with a list of other medicines - and even grapefruit juice - could cause a potentially deadly side effect.
The FDA has long cautioned against taking Hismanal with any of a short list of antibiotics and antifungal medicines, because doing so can cause a life-threatening irregular heartbeat.
Monday, the FDA expanded that warning, saying doctors should never prescribe Hismanal to anyone taking the hypertension drug Posicor or the antibiotics Biaxin or TAO. Never take Hismanal with grapefruit juice, which ...
