NORFOLK -- After a bumpy arrival along a windswept waterfront, the crew of the Ecuadorean barque Guayas was grateful Friday when nature apologized, on cue.
Just as the band struck up, a rolling layer of steely-gray clouds parted, bathing the tall ship in warm sunlight.
``We were asked this morning to fix the weather and now we've done it,'' City Council member Mason C. Andrews said happily during a noontime welcoming ceremony. Gazing over his shoulder at the three-masted barque behind him, he underlined the spirit of the moment: ``This city has a love affair with tall ships.''
