For many folks. the Seawall Festival is Friday night with Bill Deal and Ammon Tharp.

Once, when the festival committee tried moving the group to Sunday afternoon, the public outcry was so loud that Ports Events director Linda Lamm vowed ``never again.''

Thus, the original Rhondels - as Deal and Tharp call themselves - will be back tonight at 8 p.m. to kick off the weekend with a rousing program of beach music.

Bill Deal is from Portsmouth, and people remember when the Rhondels practiced locally before they became a national phenomenon.
