NORFOLK -- Satisfied with numbers supplied by the city, the U.S. Justice Department does not plan to reopen an investigation into Norfolk's hiring of black firefighters.
In a letter to Councilman Paul R. Riddick, the Justice Department said that it would continue monitoring the city's progress and that anyone with a discrimination complaint should contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The Justice Department closed an investigation into the city's hiring of black firefighters last year.
