The Rev. R. Stewart McCarter of Suffolk's Southside Baptist Church is a man of great humility and great pride.
He notes that the church has added 226 members during his tenure.
But that may not be the highest achievement. ``It's a great thrill for me to watch our people busy outside the walls of the church in acts of service and ministry . . . These people are phenomenal,'' McCarter said.
When McCarter came to Suffolk nearly five years ago, he had a seminary degree from Columbia Biblical Seminary and about 13 years of experience as pastor of several South Carolina congregations.
