Food poisoning has posed a growing threat to public health with its number of victims surging over the last five years.
The Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) said yesterday that a total of 7,269 people were hit with food poisoning in the first 11 months of this year, slightly down from last year's 7,764.
The figure represents a nearly five-fold increase from 1,584 in 1995.
Those reported suffering from food poisoning climbed to 2,797 in 1996, 2,942 in 1997 and 4,577 in 1998.
