CURRITUCK -- ``I CAN'T believe it's free,'' Canadian George Brooks said about the ferry ride from Currituck to Knotts Island.
He was incredulous. And after thinking about it, I was too.
Riding the ferry is too fun to be free.
Taxes pay the state-run boat's bill, of course. But I got a decent tax refund last year. So I felt justified rejoicing with George about the free ferry trip across the Currituck Sound.
It's about a half-hour drive from the Wright Memorial Bridge on the Outer Banks to the ferry docks in Currituck. But it's well worth the trip. And the contrasts between the barren ...
