Dec. 30--At the memorial service Thursday for the seven victims of the mass shooting in Wakefield, Cardinal Bernard Law offered words of comfort. But some of those words were exactly the sort that George Herbert didn't want to hear.
"We must study the use of the Internet for clearly antisocial purposes," Law told the mourners.
But Herbert, a 31-year-old aerospace and computer consultant in Oakland, says there's nothing antisocial about alt.engr.explosives, the Internet bulletin board, or "newsgroup," made famous this week as the electronic hangout of alleged mass murderer Michael McDermott.
