ALLEN DITCHES JUDGE WHO YANKED NORTH'S WEAPONS PERMIT
RICHMOND - Gov. George F. Allen on Wednesday replaced the judge who was ousted by the General Assembly after revoking Oliver North's concealed weapons permit. Clarke County Circuit Judge James L. Berry's reappointment was blocked earlier this year by a GOP state senator representing Berry's district.
In 1992, Berry issued North a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Two years later, when North was the Republican U.S. Senate nominee, Berry refused to renew the permit, citing North's role in the Iran-Contra scandal during the mid-1980s.
