JOHN RUPPERT, Raymond Saa Stein and Steven Bickley are making an Easter Island of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
On the beach at 31st street, the three sculptors will spend the next week creating and installing the most curious objects.
Curious - and large.
As of Monday, Ruppert's 12-foot chain-link fence balls, Stein's big foam-covered ``buoys'' and Bickley's 210-foot-long salamander effigy mound will take over a whole block of perfectly good sunbathing territory.
Such creations as they have in mind could stop a sailor from coming ashore. Could even send a shark back out to sea.
