There has been an increased demand for natural ingredients, specifically botanicals and herbal extracts. At the CTFA 1999 Science Conference meeting, Dr. Michael Balick of the New York Botanical Gardens presented his research on medicinal plants from Belize and other rainforests. His findings uncovered important sources of new active ingredients with therapeutic effects.
The American Botanical Council (ABC) released a book, "Herbal Medicine--Expanded Commission E Monographs," which provides information about clinical studies, herb safety, side effects, interactions, and formulations.
