Tampa Bay Water is a state agency, created by interlocal agreement among Hillsborough County, Pinellas County, Pasco County, New Port Richey, St. Petersburg, and Tampa. It is a wholesale water provider and owns 12 regional groundwater facilities, two water treatment facilities, and one surface water augmentation facility. Total production from these facilities averages 180 mgd.
Historically, the source of the area's water supply has been groundwater that flows from the Floridan Aquifer, which lies between 20 and 100 ft underground. Despite conservation efforts over the past decade, reduced rainfall and growing population have strained this groundwater supply. The ...
