Symyx Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:SMMX) announced today that DESC, S.A. de C.V. (NYSE:DES) (BMV:DESC) through its wholly owned subsidiary "GIRSA" has completed an agreement to purchase a Symyx Discovery Tools(TM) polymer polymerization and analysis system. Under this agreement, GIRSA will purchase three component systems, designed to synthesize and characterize polymers through automated reactors, robotics and software. Symyx completed shipment of the first component system in December, and the remaining two are to ship in 2001.
