STRASBOURG, France, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ --
Allianz Capital Partners, the private equity arm of Allianz AG, and Goldman Sachs Funds agreed on December 31, 2000 to acquire from Aventis (NYSE: AVE) the 66.6 percent stake in industrial gases group Messer Griesheim GmbH, which Aventis holds through Hoechst AG. The Messer family will retain its 33.3 percent stake in the company. Subject to various conditions, which include approvals by the relevant antitrust authorities as well as financing and tax considerations, the closing of the transaction is expected in the first quarter of 2001. The partners have agreed not to disclose the financial details of the transaction.
