ELIZABETH CITY -- Larcenies and burglaries dropped by nearly half this year at Elizabeth City State University, good news to students who worry about thieves breaking into dorm rooms.
Campus Police Chief George Mountain credited the drop to the presence of officers who know ``who are students and who are not students.''
The university added five new security officers last fall to patrol dormitories in the evening hours, Mountain said. The new patrol officers are part of the administration's push for safety on campus.
