Any way you cut it or slice it, food prepared without salt is healthier for your heart.
A large government-funded study conducted at five hospitals has found that lowering your intake of salt can lower your blood pressure, whether or not you have clinical hypertension and no matter what kinds of foods you eat.
"The bottom line is that we now know that lower salt is better," said Dr. Frank Sacks of Brigham and Women's Hospital.
"This is a large study," he said. "It's definitive."
