Oil-Patch Lawmaker Takes Commerce Chair
The House Republican leadership on Thursday generally steered clear of controversy and bitterness by supporting the most senior members to head various committees, and in the process gave the reins on energy issues to an oil-patch lawmaker.
The important exceptions to the seniority criteria in the list of committee assignments announced by Speaker Dennis Hastert (Ill.) were the Ways and Means and Banking committees.
