Lots of people experience a mild case of the "winter blues," but some get it so severely that it's classified as seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
The festive holiday decorations and brilliant light displays didn't interest Melanie this year. Neither did shopping for holiday gifts and sharing in her family's cherished holiday traditions. Melanie found herself craving sweets and eating more than her share of cookies, but even that didn't help her shake the feeling that life was meaningless and hardly worth living.
