DENVER -- Safeway and Nordstrom are two disparate retailers whose names rarely come up in the same conversation. But that's not the case in Denver.
In December 1998, Cherry Creek Shopping Center announced that Nordstrom would open a store in the glitzy Taubman-owned center in 2003.
Meanwhile, Safeway has reopened a store at the shopping center that it just spent $10 million to renovate. The store, which closed in July and reopened on Dec. 5, sits in the exact spot Nordstrom had wanted as its own.
It was not a lack of communication that brought about the unusual circumstances.
