BYRD COMMENTS ON PRESIDENT'S VETO OF DEFENSE BILL
WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd (D-W.Va.) said today that more than $26 million in defense and military construction projects for West Virginia are among the military initiatives jeopardized by President Reagan's veto of the Defense Authorization Bill.
"The Defense Authorization Bill is one of the most important pieces of legislation passed by Congress," Byrd said. "It is essential to our national security, and I think that the president is making a grave mistake in vetoing it."
