Jan. 6--PEORIA, Ill.--Caterpillar Inc. will shut down its on-highway truck engine plant in Mossville for one week later this month, idling about 1,500 hourly workers, the company said Friday.
The shutdown of the Performance Engine Product Division facility the week of Jan. 22-26 could also affect other Caterpillar plants -- namely the foundry at Mapleton -- that supply the Mossville plant, said officials from United Auto Workers Local 974, which represents hourly employees at Caterpillar.
The company said the Mossville shutdown is being used to "bring production in line with demand for the company's on-highway truck engines."
