After 70 years of expounding on life in two river towns, Ralph Goldsmith says he's putting the cover on his typewriter for good.
Goldsmith, 86, former publisher of the Boscobel Dial, surprised the staff at his old newspaper by slipping in the news that his Dec. 28 ``Under the Bridge'' column would be his last.
The old steel truss bridge over the Wisconsin River pictured at the top of the column is gone, Goldsmith noted, and it is time for him to go, too.
If he really stays retired -- a big if for a guy with more ink than blood flowing through his veins -- it will mean the end of a Wisconsin writing career that stretched over seven decades. It ...
