New Hampshire Christmas tree farmers are expecting a particularly joyous holiday season this year after a rainy summer that has produced what's seen as an excellent crop, and sales are on the rise in a booming national and local market for natural trees.
According to Bill Nichols of Orford, who sells his trees around Hanover and Lebanon, "Nationwide, natural tree sales have gone up 3 or 4 million in the past few years." The surge has stemmed a years-long decline caused by competition from artificial trees whose sales are waning.
