BRENTWOOD-- The new head of the state Superior Court system says a shortage of judges has caused a case backlog, and he questions why the governor has not filled more vacancies.
Judge Walter Murphy, confirmed and sworn in in October after his appointment by Gov. Jeanne Shaheen, said he has no idea why Shaheen has not pursued filling the three court vacancies. He said he is sending her a letter asking why.
"The governor has not declared the vacancies yet," said Murphy. "New Hampshire law says we will have 28 associate justices and one chief justice at the Superior Court level. I am sure there are plenty of candidates, but until the vacancies go to the ...
