HAMNETT'S NEW STORE: ART AND SOLE
LONDON (FNS) -- When Katherine Hamnett was planning her flagship store, all she kept saying to architect Nigel Coates was that she wanted a shop like no other.
She's succeeded. Ever since the 1,000-square-foot store at 20 Sloane St. opened in early October it has been drawing raves -- and cash. Hamnett says the store's weekly sales average 18,000 to 20,000 pounds ($33,300 to $37,000), with a 60-40 split between women's wear and men's wear.
Hamnett's brief to Coates was to take the designs of Cecil Beaton and Jean Cocteau and apply them to the classic Knightsbridge salon. The result is a surrealist combination ...
