COLUMBIA, S.C. _ They marched around the flag they hate, to reach the State House they love and to ask again that their leaders listen.
A crowd estimated at between 3,000 and 5,500 people gathered at the State House on Mon-day for King Day at the Dome II: A Day of Dignity.
The march and rally were sponsored by the NAACP to protest the Confederate flag and what they see as ongoing inequity in South Carolina.
The rally took place on the state's first recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Depart-ment of Public Safety estimated the crowd at about 3,000 to 4,000 people. The NAACP said it was as large as 5,500.
