We live in the only country in the world that allows the fat-blocker, olestra, in foods. Canada recently gave it a "thumbs down." Not only does olestra block the absorption of dietary fats, it also blocks the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins like E and A. Canadian officials said that the vitamins added to olestraladen foods didn't counteract the blocking of those same nutrients. In other words, when you eat chips or other foods with olestra, fat-soluble vitamins in the rest of your meal or in your supplements are not getting through, either.
