Specialty Stores' Sales Per Square Foot Ahead Of Department Stores' NEW YORK -- Sales per square foot at specialty stores far exceed those at department stores, according to the recently released Financial and Operating Results of Department & Specialty Stores report published by the National Retail Merchants Association.
Specialty stores reported sales of $209.49 per square foot while department stores posted sales of $141.26, the report said.
However, stock turns at department stores improved to 3 last year, up from 2.78 in 1986.
