Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy produce, as tested in the landmark DASH study (NIs passim) has already been shown to have a profound effect on blood pressure in patients with hypertension and has become incorporated into national dietary guidelines. Now, the DASH investigators have completed a follow-up study looking at whether restricting the levels of sodium consumed in the diet can reduce blood pressure beyond the effects of adhering to a DASH diet.
