Jan. 18--FORT WORTH, Texas--Nokia, the No. 1 cellphone manufacturer, said it has laid off 53 workers at its Alliance factory because of production line changes.
The company, which has 3,000 full-time and temporary workers at its Fort Worth factories at Alliance and Centreport, said the reduction affected 48 technicians and 5 engineers.
The five engineers were given positions at Nokia's Americas headquarters in Irving, and about 80 percent of the technicians will get jobs in Nokia divisions in the Metroplex, spokeswoman Megan Matthews said.
