Imports measured in CIF prices increased 3.2% in 2000. Although, excluding crude oil and oil products, imports had dropped 1.55% at the end of last year. According to the report of the BCU (Banco Central del Uruguay), last year, imports reached US$3,465.8mil, while in 1999 was US$3,356.7mil. In December 2000, imports dropped 8% in relation to the same month in the previous year, reaching US$323,900. In the year, imports of consumption goods decreased by 3.1%, mainly because of the 9% drop in vehicle's imports. While imports of capital goods decreased by 12.9%, mainly machinery and equipment with a decrease of 16.1%. Only intermediate goods ...
