The Corps will disclose its plans for some of the agency's largest - and certainly its most controversial - projects over the next 12 months.
Topping the agency's 2001 agenda is the draft feasibility report for its navigation modernization study of the Upper Mississippi River and Illinois Waterway (UMR-IWW). The Rock Island (Ill.) District is expected to release its recommendation in September on whether the Corps should spend about $1 billion to extend seven of the system's lock chambers.
Last October, the district said the $57 million report would be delayed one year to incorporate new traffic forecasts into its estimate of project benefits. The ...
