Adult Comics: No Laughing matter
The French have always taken comics seriously--for example, Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy and Woody Allen. They are also big on comic magazines and comic strip books. The French post office recently issued a series of stamps honoring comic strip heroes, Pilote & Charlie and A Suivre, shown here, are two popular and typical French comic magazines.
In the United States, most comic magazines are strictly kids' stuff, but Mad and Heavy Metal attract young adults. The latter is an offspring of the French magazine Metal Hurlante. Heavy Metal's editorial format ...
