California's cheese industry, among the fastest growing in the nation, will again see record production in 2000, easily surpassing the record 1.4 billion pounds produced last year, reports the California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB).

According to preliminary estimates provided by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), California cheese production increased by 6.4 percent in the first 11 months of 2000 versus the same period in 1999. This surpassed the 4.8 percent average growth nationally for the same period, according to USDA figures.
