Frantz Medical Development Ltd. is creating a venture fund to invest in biotech and medical device startups.
The fund, called Frantz Medical Ventures LLC, has raised more than a third of its $25 million goal from limited partners who previously invested in Frantz Medical Development, a New York-based designer and maker of medical devices with a plant in Mentor.
Mark Frantz, chief executive officer and founder of Frantz Medical Development, said the company has missed out on opportunities in the past because it has limited its investments to technologies that Frantz controlled and didn't invest in outside technologies.
