Although past and emerging evidence supports the role of exercise in diabetes management, physical activity still goes underused and underemphasized by diabetics and health-care professionals. This disparity has led organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) to promote, and offer specific guidelines for, the implementation of regular physical activity programs among individuals with the disease.
