WHEN BUYING BULBS, be sure to buy or order jumbo or Number One grade. Smaller bulbs yield less vigorous plants; some don't even bloom for a year or two.
With tulips and hyacinths, chill them for six weeks in your refrigerator, planting toward the end of October. All bulbs demand well-drained soil and prefer full sun to partial shade. Be sure to use Perma-till or gravel in the planting hole to deter voles.
