SUMMERTIME IS the time to root azaleas. Gardeners short of cash or who want a new hobby can start their own azaleas now, at little or no cost. They'll be blooming before you know it.
Azaleas root very easily by taking soft-wood cuttings. Here's how, with suggestions from Southern Living Garden Guide.
First prepare a planter box or pot. If you want just a few cuttings, you can use a small pot. For a couple of dozen new plants, use a wood or plastic foam box the size of an orange crate, with drainage in the bottom. Fill the box with a good potting soil. Buy the best.
