RECENT RAINS, although slight, have softened the soil just enough to allow moles to get active again. They're burrowing all over some sections of our yard, and the same thing may be happening in yours.
Few of us like moles. They, however, often get blamed for damage they do not commit. Those raised runs in your lawn or garden are moles, searching for grubs or worms, which is what they eat. Researchers say moles actually aerate your lawn, but because they lift the soil, grass roots often die and cause unsightly dead areas.
Now is the time to correct that with seed and fertilizer.
