The enclosed vine has practically devoured a large tree on my lot in the Bayside area. We cut back 3-inch diameter shoots at ground level a year ago, but that didn't seem to bother the vine.
Is there a way to kill this vine before it kills the tree? A tree specialist said the job was too large for him. We pulled out 8 feet of roots from the ground - and the vine still doesn't die.

Your problem vine is English ivy in the adult form, a very difficult plant to eliminate. Kunso Kim at the Norfolk Botanical Garden says to cut the vine down at ground level and spray the cut end of the roots with full strength Roundup. ...
