"My theory--and I think it's being proven--is the whole Internet is moving towards vertical Web sites."
"People believe the great horizontal portals--the original model for content on the Internet--are the keys to the future, but they're not," said Alan M. Meckler, chairman and CEO of internet.com Corporation. "My theory--and I think it's being proven--is the whole Internet is moving towards vertical Web sites. The Internet is so big, so wide ranging, and it's growing exponentially. No horizontal Web site can keep up; therefore, you have to go vertical. It's like a great library. Libraries have subject areas, and that's exactly how the Internet is breaking out."
